TV stands evolved as technological advances brought about changes to television sets. Living environments also factored into the evolution of TV stands. Families became focused on spending more time at home. This brought a change in the way entertainment was obtained. Life became a hustle and bustle of activity with family members on the go from morning to dinnertime. At the end of the day, there was a need for the family to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Entertainment needs were sought from the comforts of the living room couch. From here TV stands primary function began to change. It is no longer a piece of household furniture that holds the television set. TV stands are now elaborate storage units that house every piece of electronic entertainment equipment imaginable. There are storage drawers built in to hold video games, DVD movies and an assortment of remote controls to work all of the electronic equipment. There are several types of television sets available on the market. The first one to make its way into business is the traditional TV console unit. This piece of furniture encompassed the television set in the center and the remainder of the stand was built around the television. This type of TV is rarely seen on the market today. It was the original TV that was featured on the retail market. The next type of television is a portable version than can move from room to room if needed. This type is functional in the event a single television set exists inside the house. Today’s market showcases bigger television sets that can do more things than just show a picture. Plasma and LCD flat screen models feature two pictures in one with sharper picture quality than ever before. Regardless of what type of television set is featured in a home, one fact remains. There needs to be somewhere to place the television set. Here is where the TV stand comes into the picture. Television stands are available in a wide range of sizes and styles that suit every budget and home décor need. For starters, TV stands are created out of virtually any type of material available. Common materials are cedar wood or aluminum. Basically any piece of material that provides a clean surface finish can be utilized in the production of a TV stand. Sizes ranges from small to large with massive weight capacities. This enable the TV stands to hold the weight of a television set and any accessories. Finishing touches depend on personal preference. A selection of TV stands is housed in a cart setting. The television set sits on top of the cart and there are wheels at the base. This allows for easy transport when needed. Following this same notion are the TV stands that feature a swivel allowing for the stand to remain stationary and the television set to move around in a circular motion. Television stands feature one or two shelves for additional storage space. More elaborate designs hold storage units for gaming equipment, music equipment and DVD movie equipment. As technology continues to advance, so will the needs of TV stands. |
